I am really proud of our school and the staff work extremely hard to make learning fun and exciting. We work as a very close team and strive to involve parents as much as possible in the learning of their children. I am extremely honoured to be the Headteacher of Great Chart Primary School and I believe that when children move on from our school at the end of Year 6 they will leave with the following idea:

At Great Chart Primary School we aim to provide a broad and balanced education for all the children within a happy, stimulating and healthy environment and we want each child to achieve the best he or she can. We have excellent teachers, teaching assistants, office staff and site managers who all work as a very close team. Our Governing Body plays an essential role in the development and success of the school. Parents work with us in partnership and we have a thriving Friends’ Association whose members work extremely hard to raise money and to provide a whole range of social events for parents and children. We have a strong sense of community.
Our school has a strong tradition of celebrating achievement and encouraging children’s self-esteem. Our weekly Celebration Assemblies are used to formally celebrate and reward children’s achievements in class and outside of school. Children are also invited to my Headteacher’s tea party to celebrate their efforts in school and for following the school’s RESPECT ethos. Parents are welcome to join us in our sharing Assemblies throughout the year.
Through our pastoral systems we promote the development of excellent relationships between pupils and the whole staff team. Citizenship is a very important aspect of our school life. The School Council represents pupil views and meets with the Headteacher, a Senior Teacher and a Governor regularly. Pupil voice is an important part of school life from EYFS to Y6. Children’s ideas for improving our school are discussed and acted upon.
We also have a reward system in school and weekly GoldenTime which promotes positive behaviour. At the end of the school year we have a range of cups and trophies which are presented in our Prize Giving Ceremony for academic achievement and citizenship.
All children belong to four different communities named after local castles: Hever, Leeds, Bodiam and Dover. The communities compete for reward points through various events. Children have a strong sense of belonging to a community.
By the time children leave us at the end of Year 6, they are responsible, independent young people and we are very proud of them.
