In the lead up to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio Great Chart are part of the INSPIRE project that aims to use the Olympics as a platform for learning through sport and culture. We have already had role model visits from Paralympic athlete Tim Prendegast and will also be having some art workshops in preparation for a carnival in the summer. In January we were part of a new initiative: – Inspirecipe.
This is a programme where a small group of pupils work with a community chef to try out some recipes inspired by South American cuisine and then share their ideas with their peers and parents.
The session was held at Great Chart on the 13th January and involved ten pupils from Year 2. They created some delicious dishes: Souper Rio Rainbow Soup and Sprinting Spaghetti Bolognaise. They prepared and cooked the dishes and then tucked into them! When their parents joined them they also made a healthy smoothie: Brazilian Berry Blitz which used fruits that represent the colours of the Olympic rings.
It was a very successful afternoon and the children will now share these recipes with other year groups in school. If you would like to see more recipes and information please look on the INSPIRE website:
