On Thursday 7th June the Year 1 children enjoyed a great learning experience at Samphire Hoe. They were met by the rangers who lead the activities throughout the day. Our first activity was rock pooling. This caused great excitement as we were actually in the water! We were told the best way to find creatures and then worked as a team to catch some shrimps, crabs and even a fish! After a long walk back we ate lunch ready for chalk art and a mini beast safari. All the groups found some amazing mini beasts and we collected data to use in our Maths at school. It was a great day and the children were excellent. Look out for writing and pictures at open evening.
This year the children in Year 1 and 2 are staging a new show, ‘Children of the World’. The show celebrates the birth of Jesus with children from different countries of the world. It provides opportunities to learn about Christmas customs in other countries and ends with the children of the world joining hands around the world to represent peace and hope.

On Tuesday 10th November Year 1 parents were invited to a practical workshop to see how Numicon is used in class to support the teaching and learning of Mathematics. Numicon is a resource containing coloured shapes representing numbers from 1-10. The event was well attended and parents got to see how the equipment is used and how pupils use the equipment in a very visual way to practise and reinforce mathematical concepts. Some parents also ordered parent sets to support their children at home for £5 each. Please ask Mrs Thomas for any further information.

On Monday 8th December a team of eight Year 1 and year 2 pupils attended the Infant Agility competition at the John Wallis Academy. There were 14 teams from other local schools and the children took part in a range of activities testing their running, jumping and throwing ability. The children had a great time and all tried their best. We are awaiting our final position but am sure we were in the top 7 schools. The children will all receive a certificate of participation in a celebration assembly. Well done!
