Children’s Litter Pick

On Monday 9th May, several environmentally friendly pupils, from Great Chart Primary School equipped with hi-vis jackets, protective gloves and litter-picks, borrowed from Ashford Borough Council, descended upon Singleton Oast Park with the aim of clearing up litter.
Foundation’s Willow asked if she and her friends could litter-pick in the local park, having watched year 1s litter-pick around her school play area. She said, “School is very tidy but sometimes people drop litter in the park.” With help from Jasmine, Freya, Nicole, Summer, Imogen, Layla, Ellie and Naomi – and, older pupils, who wanted to join in – Reuben, Charlie and Jack – the Great Chart Primary School team set to work. Local Community Wardens, who supervised the event, counted 4 black sacks full.
The children were very enthusiastic and worked hard collecting litter. And, to reinforce the point that – we must not drop litter – Willow, Jasmine, Freya and Nicole, spoke about the problems caused by litter in their Key Stage 1 assembly.
